For the second year in a row, CarePoint endovascular neurosurgeon Eric Arias, MD, has been named a Top Doctor by 5280 Magazine and Castle Connolly.
Only a small percentage of the roughly 30,000 licensed physicians in Colorado are honored as Top Doctors each year. Of the more than 200 neurosurgeons in the state, only 15 earned the honor in 2025. To be recognized in back-to-back years is an even rarer feat.
“Represents the Very Best of Our Profession”
5280 and Castle Connolly, a New York-based healthcare research and information company, partner each year to create a list of the top physicians in the country. Castle Connolly uses a rigorous physician-led, peer-nomination process to identify top doctors at both the national and regional levels. Licensed physicians across the U.S. may nominate doctors in any specialty and location. After the nomination period, Castle Connolly’s research team conducts a comprehensive review of each nominee’s credentials, experience, professional reputation, and, when available, outcomes data. Interpersonal qualities such as communication, empathy, and the ability to inspire trust are also evaluated.
Dr. Arias represents the very best of our profession. His unique background and training, combined with his desire to help underserved patients thousands of miles away from home, speak to who he is not only as a physician, but also as a human being. We are incredibly proud to have him as a member of our practice.
– Mark Kozlowski, MD, CarePoint CEO
Dr. Arias, who serves as medical director of CarePoint’s Neurosurgery and Spine division, is uniquely trained in both neurosurgery and endovascular neuroradiology; the vast majority of neurosurgeons are trained in one or the other. His dual-training allows him to offer both traditional and minimally invasive treatment options for complex brain and spine conditions.
Giving Back
In addition to his work in Colorado, Dr. Arias pays regular visits to the Dr. Ney Arias Lora Traumatology Hospital in the Dominican Republic — named after his uncle, the Caribbean nation’s first neurosurgeon — to perform surgeries on children in need.
“Dr. Arias represents the very best of our profession,” CarePoint CEO Mark Kozlowski, MD, said. “His unique background and training, combined with his desire to help underserved patients thousands of miles away from home, speak to who he is not only as a physician, but also as a human being. We are incredibly proud to have him as a member of our practice.”
Since being named a 2024 Top Doctor, Dr. Arias has had research published in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine and Journal of the American Medical Association.
After graduating from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Arias went to the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis for his residency training, which included a seven-month stint as registrar in neurological surgery at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. He went on to complete his fellowship training at Washington University’s Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology.
